Murray makes it to the quarterfinals of the European Open

Andy Murray is his 3rd round match of the European Open defeated Pablo Cuevas by 6-4 and 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. In addition to this, other top 3 seeded players of the European Open have also been eliminated on Thursday.  

At first, Murray was not able to convert his 7 break points but then was able to break his opponent in the last game of the 1st set. Then in the 2d set’s opening game, he was able to save 4 breakpoints as he gained the 4-2 lead.

The former world no. 1 player is now 7-7 on this current tour return since having his hip resurfacing surgery back in January. He has won his first singles match at a Toru level tournament in September held in Zhuhai, China. After that, he made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the China Open held in Beijing.

Murray said, “Today, I felt a little bitter as I thought I served well for the most part of the match.  However, when tic me to baseline rallies, it felt as I was hitting the ball clean which is good. It is indeed getting here. It sometimes takes me a little longer to get warmed up for the matches and now I feel more confident with my moves. But particularly today, I felt like that from the start of the match and this is why is started well. It was a good day for me.”

 

Murray is set up to face Marius Copil, the Romanian qualifier who defeated the 3rd seeded Argentinean player Diego Schwartzman by 6-4, m5-7 and 7-6.

For the top seed of the European Open, gale Monfils, he lost to the 18 years old Italian player Jannik Sinner by 6-3 and 6-2. Lastly, the 2nd seed of the European Open David Goffin lost against Ugo Humbert by 6-3 and 6-1.

Frances Tiafoe of America moved up in the quarterfinals round by beating the 7th seed, Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3 and 6-4.
