Novak Djokovic calls out US Open organizers to address the humidity issue on Arthur Ashe Stadium
After making it to the semi finals of the US open drenched in sweat, Novak Djokovic has finally raised voice on the humidity problem in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic stayed on his target for making it for the third time into the US Open semi finals after defeating john Millman by 6-3, 6-4, and 6-4 on Wednesday. He is set for a semi final match against the Japanese player, Kei Nishikori.
Millman who is used to heat of his country; Brisbane; in his match against Rodger Federer left the court with a tie score of 2-2 in the second round just to change. He said to umpire that he is soaking wet and cannot even put the balls in his shorts pockets because they are drenched in sweat.
US Tennis Association released a statement that Millman was perspiring so heavily that the sweat has caused the ground to be dangerous to play on.
For Djokovic this is his 11th consecutive quarter final victory, has finally called out to the organizers to do something about the humidity conditions at the stadium.
31 years old Serb told media that, “I have never sweated s much as I have here in my life. I took at least 10 shirts to every match here. After two games you are literally soaking wet. As for Rodger he never sweated this much but we did for the first time couple of night ago. I even asked the umpire if there is some air conditioning or ventilation going down at the court level side. He replied that he does not know of this and the only thing he knew was the air that came through hallways.”
He further said, “I think that organizers of the tournament need to address this. No matter the day or night, this place feels like a sauna. For me personally this is the toughest US Open event that I have played in past ten years in regards to conditions.”
