Seattle Sounders waited for a full decade for this grand creation to happen once more. The team paraded around with their championship trophy of the Major League Soccer at their home Stadium as the ones wearing eh reds walked for the exists.
Ten years following the change of the Major League Soccer, the Seattle Sounders was able to once more host the championship game at home and was able to win their 2nd title of MLS in the last 4 years.
Brian Schmetzer, coach of Seattle Sounders sad, “The player and the fans of the team deserve this win. The players managed to preserve themselves once more as in the first half we needed to make some adjustments but they never quit. As for fans, they never stopped believing in us. I am really proud and happy for this city.”
The nerves of the home fans were settled by Seattle Sounders’ Kelvin Leerdam as he made a goal off of deflection during the 57th minute to help the Seattle Sounders beat the FC Toronto by 3-1 to win the MLS title.
Playing in front of the 2nd largest crowd ever recorded at the MLS finals, Seattle Sounders held their ground even when they were held scoreless by the FC players for 45 minutes of the first half. Sounders then took charge of the game in the 2nd half have their first goal and then the second one form Rodríguez during the 76th minute for a lead of 2-0. The crowd was rattled once more on their seats after Ruidíaz scored to take the lead 3-0 during the 90th minute.
Stefan Frei, goalkeeper of Seattle Sounders said, “I got a little teary-eyed there. Not became we had won the championship trophy but because we had won it right at home in between our fans.”
