David Warner was able to score his first century of a Test Match following his ban lifted from the ball-tampering incident in the Test match of Australia VS Pakistan held in Brisbane.
The 33 years old left-hander, who has previously served the 1-year ban for the ball-tampering incident back in 2018, had to go through a barren run at the Ashes series of Australia VS England where he could only score 95 runs.
But now Warner was able to make up for that shortfall in Gabba as he scored 151 runs to be not out off of 256 deliveries to take his team at 312-1 at the end of day 2. Australia is already ahead of Pakistan on score chase by 72 runs as their 9 wickets still stand strong.
Warner shared the opening partnership with Joe Burns for 222 runs who then got ousted only 3 runs short of his century. After Burns came Marnus Labuschagne who scored 55 runs and is still going strong in partnership with Warner.
Warner said, “It means really a lot to me and my family. We suffered through a really tough period and the support from Australia does not go unnoticed. I am really thankful and to my teammates especially, who have been outstanding. You need to work hard like this and back yourself.”
The path to Warner’s 22nd Test match century was not smooth sailing as he was once caught from behind on delivery from Pakistani debutant Naseem Shah. The first test match wicket celebration for the 16 years old Shah was left dead in tracks upon a TV replay. Warner again returned to the crease and then endured another scare of getting run out after a direct hit from Yasir Shah but gain got saved.
After Warner scored his century following the tea time interval, his excitement was really palpable as he jumped up in the air in his trademark style and then kissed the badge on the helmet.
