Dominic Thiem managed to keep his hope of making it to the ATP Finals’ Semi Finals alive after defeating Kei Nishikori by 6-1 and 6-4 at the London’ O2 arena on Thursday night.
Thiem was looking for a third time open round exit from the ATP Finals and he was well aware that his only hope lied in defeating Kei Nishikori.
Thiem was helped majorly by his opponent who made 11 unforced errors during opening three games and ended the Group Lleyton Hewitt in his favor.
Nishikori, who earlier shocked Federer and audience by defeating him, previously lost one game to Kevin Anderson. He was again struggling to keep his serves stable and avoid unforced errors.
With this win, 25 years old Dominic Thiem has made it to the last four of the ATP Finals for competing in the semi finals.
After the match, Thiem said to media, “I am really happy because I did not played very well in my two earlier matches so I wanted to play better this time.”
