Australian Open; Kei Nishikori defeats Ivo Karlovic in thriller match

Kei Nishikori was very close to losing his second round match against the Ivo Karlovic at the Melbourne Park before he managed to win the final set tie-break.

The Croatian giant Karlovic who will turn 40 years old next month had his first-round victory over Hubert Hurkacz, has become the oldest man to win the main singles draw match at the Australian Open this year. He is the first since Ken Rosewall from back in 1978.

Karlovic was defeated by Kei Nishikori by 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 5-7, and 7-6.

Nishikori, who is the three times quarter finalist at the Melbourne Park, said to media after the match, “it was a tough match that could have gone both ways.”

Nishikori will now face the Portuguese player Joao Sousa who defeated his opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 5-7, and 6-4.

Another epic match was played between Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic for the second round match of the Australian Open. The Canadian 16th seed of the tournament Raonic was the one who prevailed in the end. Their grueling match continued for a massive 4 hours and 1 minute time. Raonic managed to secure the win over Wawrinka by 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 and 7-6.

Now Raonic will face the Frenchman Pierre Hugues Herbert for the third round match. As for Borna Coric he will now face Filip Krajinovic after defeating his second round opponent Marton Fucsovics.
