Novak Djokovic, the world no. 1 once again showed his class as he overcame his Russian opponent, Daniil Medvedev in four sets to make it into the quarterfinals of his 10th Australian Open.
The Serb is on road to win his seventh title at Melbourne as he knocked out fifth seed Medvedev by 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-3.
After Stefanos Tsitsipas won over his quarterfinals match against Roger Federer, Medvedev was also bidding to knockout another old generation player.
The fiery talent before his match said that Djokovic is not what he used to be at his peak. There is a good chance that he can beat him. However, Djokovic wore his young opponent down in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
During the on court, interview, Djokovic said, “since my opponent is watching, I am feeling fantastic and I have never felt fresher in my life. It was a physical battle of the top level. Daniil lately has been applying good tennis past six months. It was difficult to go through him and I had to find another way. I was fortunate enough to save a couple of break points. In these kinds of matches, a player has to hand in and wait for the opportunities.”
