South Africa managed to clinch the seven-run victory over Pakistan during their second T20 International series match after the visiting team suffered a major collapse in Johannesburg.
David Miller, the stand-in second captain of South Africa helped the team by his unbeaten 65 runs on 29 balls along with smashing 29 runs in the final over of the innings. This helped the Proteas side to set 189 for Shoaib Malik’s side to win the three-match series.
The visitors were looking to have an easy victory as their batsman Babar Azam stuck 90 runs off 58 balls. However, after the opener was caught off, Pakistan lost 6-34 in the final 24 balls of the match. With this loss, Pakistan’s chance to bring their 11th consecutive T20I series wins came to an end.
Janneman Malan was handling the opening batsman position instead of Faf du Plessis and he enjoyed a marvelous International debut as he scored 58 runs partnership with Reeza Hendricks.
However, he soon was stumped by Imad Wasim after playing a shot and got out at 33 runs.
Next came out Rassie van der Dussen as he maintained a partnership with Hendricks. He too got out after he rushed for a quick single as Shahab Khan ran around the point to hit the stumps.
Proteas’ third wicket soon fell after Van der Dussen skied a delivery from the returning Shahid Afridi which was well caught by Imad Wasim.
Next, Miller came who was not bothered by the little rain and hit five sixes in the final over to make 188-3 against the visitors.
From the visors side, came out Babar and Fakhar Zaman as an opener who put 45 runs until the first wicket fell. Baber from thereon took control of Pakistan’s lead as he hit 13 fours and 1 six but he too soon fell by midwicket.
From thereon, there was a disastrous collapse for Pakistan as Asif Ali, Captain Malik, Imad Wasim, and Hassan Ali all departed from the field in single figures; making a chaotic defeat for Pakistan.
