Adam Werner of the Colorado Avalanche had no time to think as his dream for NHL came true.
Werner was able to make 40 saves for the team in his unexpected NHL debut game as Nathan MacKinnon scored =2 goals along with 2 assists for the Colorado Avalanche to extend their winning streak by 3 games with 4-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets.
The debut for Werner started with a regular goalie of Colorado Avalanche Pavel Francouz getting only 31 seconds’ appearance in the game before getting seriously hurt.
Werner said, “of course there are nerves for this kind of situation but you then just get in there for the short time and I guess I only tired to have the fun and to play the game the way I like it.”
Francouz got hit by the off-balance player of Jets, Mark Scheifele. Suffering the hit, Francouz fell back on his head and hit the ice. After that Francouz went to the locker room and in his place 22 years old Werner was sent to serve as the goalie for the Colorado Avalanche for his first NHL game.
Werner said, “You need to have a dream and the big dream come true here. You only need to work for it and be prepared in case anything happens.” Werner was called up to the Colorado Avalanche from Eagles, the affiliate of AHL back on 7th November.
As for an update on Francouz, the coach of Avalanche Jared Bednar had no update.
MacKinnon said, “I am really happy for Werner. It was an amazing performance by him. his first start ever and he came in very comfortably and then made some really huge saves. This was not an easy game for him.”
