Adonis Stevenson in ‘critical condition’ after knockout by Oleksandr Gvozdyk

Adonis Stevenson got knocked out by Oleksandr Gvozdyk at their boxing match and now he is in a ‘critical condition’. The news has been confirmed by Stevenson’s promoter; Yvon Michel.

Stevenson lost to the unbeaten Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC Light Heavyweight title at the Videotron Centre in Canada on Saturday night. Steven lost the match by a knockout in the 11th round.

41 years old Stevenson after his loss was stretchered out of the ring and was immediately taken to the hospital. He had been one of the longest and oldest reigning champions in the ring.

Michel took this news to the social media where he wrote, “The family of Adonis Stevenson and the Yvon Michel’s leaders are now with Adonis Stevenson. They wish to inform the fans of Adonis Stevenson that he is currently in the intensive care unit of the hospital under very critical condition after his fight with Oleksandr Gvozdyk”.

He further added to the statement, “We appreciate the concern and support of all the people out there. There are not going to be any more comments on this front. We sincerely hope that you will respect our wishes to keep this matter private”.

Stevenson before getting knocked out was leading on two of the judges’ scorecards while being at the draw on the third judge’s scorecards.

He won his WBC title back in 2013 and had defended it for almost ten times on different occasions. He defended the title for the very first time against Tony Bellew back in 2013, the year he got it.
