Australian Open; Novak Djokovic crushes Lucas Pouille to reach men’s final

The red hot world no. 1 Novak Djokovic on the hottest day in Melbourne managed to defeat his opponent Lucas Pouille to reach the men’s final of the Australian Open.

Top seed Djokovic was contesting in his 34th semi-final of a Grand Slam while he pursues his 7th record win at the Melbourne Park and his 15th overall major trophy win.  Overall in the match, Djokovic only made 5 unforced errors as he managed to utterly crush his opponent Pouille in a merciless match of tennis by 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2.

Djokovic talking about his win said, “This is definitely one of the best matches I have ever had on this court. Everything worked out as I imagined and then some more. It is tough for Lucas but he had a great tournament and I also wish him best for the remaining season.”

For the 24 years old Frenchman Lucas Pouille who is currently coached by the famed two-time major champion Amelie Mauresmo had never played in a semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament. His inexperience was evident in only 23 minutes against Djokovic, who whitewashed his opponent.

Djokovic is now all set to face the rampant Rafael Nadal for the Australian Open final who has not dropped even one serve in his surprisingly great 63 straight games record.

This will be the 53rd official meeting of the Djokovic and Nadal as their headcount is currently at 27-25. The last time hey played against each other was last year for the semifinals of the Wimbledon which Djokovic won in five thrilling sets.

Recalling the 2012’s match which lasted for 5 hours and 53 minutes, Djokovic said, “I would definitely buy tickets for that match. That was once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully, the outcome this time will be the same for me.”
