The world no. 1 and the invincible tennis player Novak Djokovic managed to win his seventh title at the men’s singles of the Australian Open in a master class tennis match against his rival Rafael Nadal.
This was Djokovic’s third consecutive Grand Slam win.

While beaming with happiness at the trophy ceremony, Djokovic said, “I am just trying to look back at the journey 12 months back. Like Rafa, I also had undergone surgery 12 months ago. And now manage to stand in front of you, winning this title and also to manage to win three out of four slams is pretty amazing. I am speechless at the moment.”
This match was the 53rd meeting between no. 1 Djokovic and world no. 2 Rafael Nadal on a tour. This was the second most sensational meeting of the two players after their 2012’s match which lasted seven minutes short of 7 hours as the longest Grand Slam title match in the history of tennis.
Nadal has not managed to defeat Djokovic on the hard court since 2013 and in this match, he also made an inauspicious start as the first set concluded in 36 minutes with 60-3 in Djokovic’s win on Rod Laver Arena.
Despite the King of Clay Nadal had improved quite a bit on the hard court, Djokovic took his game to while another level as he settled out the second set with a forehand winner and three aces.
The third set also went in favor of Djokovic despite Nadal’s impressive performance. Nadal paid tribute to Djokovic by saying that, “the first thing I need to say is congratulations to Djokovic. It was an amazing level of tennis tonight and these two weeks. Well done for everything.”
Nadal further added to his statement, “For me, it is so important to be here as I am coming off with an injury. I believe I played really impressive two weeks of tennis. This is going to be good energy for me as to what is coming next this season.”
