Rafael Nadal has defeated his opponent Frances Tiafoe in straight sets as he moved into the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the sixth time.
Nadal will now play against Stefanos Tsitsipas for a spot on the Sunday’s final after he managed to defeat Tiafoe by 6-3 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 47 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.
2009 champion Nadal said, “For me it I very emotional to b back into the semifinals at the Melbourne Park. I had many troubles in my career here so coming back here means a lot to me. Of course, I am very happy the way I played tonight.”
32 years old Nadal has knocked out two of the younger generation players; Frances Tiafoe an Alex de Minaur. Next one could be Tsitsipas.
Nadal, the 17 times Grand Slam champion who is yet to lose a single set in the tournament, is not underestimating his semi-finals opponent Tsitsipas when they will play on Thursday.
Talking about his upcoming match, Nadal said, “He is a player who has been improving each month for the past year. He is already able to win against the best players in the world. He himself is a great player. He is unbelievable today but he will have the chance to be one of the best for a long time in the future.”
