Serena Williams was able to ease into the fourth round of the Australian Open after she defeated her opponent, Dayana Yastremska. Serena the seven times winner of the tournament also consoled her 18 years old opponent.
The 37 years old veteran was able to gain an impressive victory over the Ukrainian teenager by 6-1 and 6-2 who was not even born when Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam title back in 1999.
Williams with this win will now either face Simona Halep or her sister Venus Williams for the fourth round match of the Australian Open on Monday.
Williams said to an emotional Yastremska after her victory on Rod Laver Arena, “you did so amazing and did so well. You are gonna make it, so, don’t cry. You did really well.’
The American sixth seed is trying to match the 24 singles Grand Slam record of Margaret Court as she tries to win her eighth title in Melbourne.
While Williams is easing through the tournament, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka both had to struggle hard in their third round matches to make it into the last 16.
Svitolina managed to gain a win against China’s Zhang Shuai. Svitolina had to struggle really hard to in this match as she had problems with her shoulder and neck.
As or US Open champion, Naomi Osaka managed to gain a shocking win, before losing two games, against Hsieh Su-Wei by 5-7 6-4 6-1.
Up next, Svitolina will play against Madison Keys while Naomi Osaka will play against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova for their fourth-round matches.
