The World no. 1 Simona Halep has managed to set p a meeting against the Serena Williams for the fourth round of the Australian Open after she gained a victory over Serena’s sister; Venus Williams.
Hale who was pushed hard against her both opening matches against Kaia Kanepi and Sofia Kenin, delivered an aggressive performance against the 38 years old American Venus Williams.
The top seed of the tournament won over Williams six times as the Romanian player shot 21 winners to secure her 6-2, 6-3 victory to maintain her bid for winning her second Grand Slam title.
Halep talking about her match said to media, “it has been a great match and I am really as to how I played it. Of course, it is always a challenge to play against the William sisters so I was very motivated today.”
As for Serena Williams she also eased into the fourth round after defeating her third round opponent; a Ukrainian teenager Dayana Yastremska.
On the other hand, Garbine Muguruza also won her match in the morning over Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky by 7-6 and 6-2
Muguruza will now playa against the seventh seed Karolina Pliskova on Monday for their fourth-round match as the former world no. 1 defeated her Italian opponent Camila Giorgi by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-2.
