Barcelona Open; Alexander Zverev and Cameron Norrie out of the tournament

The world no. 3 Alexander Zverev in a stunning opening round match of Barcelona Open got defeated by the Lucky Loser Nicolas Jarry in three sets.

The second-seeded Zverev got defeated by 6-3, 5-7 and 6-7 by the hands of the world rank no. 81 Jarry who managed to save the deciding match point.

23 years old got the Lucky Loser title after he failed to win the final round of the qualifiers against the Spanish player Marcel Granollers.

However, on Moony, Jarry again faced the same opponent in the main draw and won over him by 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4.

Up next, Jarry will facing the 13 seeded Grigor Dimitrov or Fernando Verdasco for the 3rd round.

Following Zverev out of the tournament was the British no. 2 Cameron Norrie. He got defeated by the Spanish player Albert Ramos Vinolas in the opening round match.

Norrie managed to reach his career high of world rank 45 by making it to the third round of the last week’s Monte-Carlo Masters. He seemed as if he had the aptitude to perform much better on the clay court.

But as it seems, he is still a rookie on this surface and was defeated by Vinolas by 6-2 and 6-2 in little under 1 hour.

As for the 2-time former champion of the tournament, Kei Nishikori, he managed to make a comeback from being 4-1 in the first set to defeat Taylor Fritz by 7-5 and 6-2. He will now be playing against Felix Auger Aliassime who defeated the Malek Jaziri by 6-3 and 7-9.

As for the 3rd seeded Dominic Thiem, he managed to win over the Argentinean opponent Diego Schwartzman by 6-3 and 6-3.
