Barcelona Open; Rafael Nadal defeats Leonardo Mayer after three thriller sets

The World rank no. 2 Rafael Nadal managed to recover from his slow start at the Barcelona Open to win over Leonardo Mayer in three sets as he now advances to the third round.

Nadal was coming into this tournament after suffering a great defeat at the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters at the hands of the Champion Fabio Fognini.

However, he still managed to maintain his 16 consecutive matches win streak at the Barcelona Open after he defeated his opponent by 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 and 6-2.

With this, he has now set himself an All-Spanish encounter with the 4-time finalist of the tournament, David Ferrer.

Nadal said, “It was not a great start. Not the best feeling this afternoon but I still managed to find a way to keep going and win the match. Today, this is the main thing. Leonardo competes really well against everyone. The problem today was not he competed well against me. The problem today was that I was not competing well.”

As for avid Ferrer, he made it through his match against the Frenchman Lucas Pouille by 6-3 and 6-1.

As for Roberto Carballes Baena, the Lucky loser of the tournament, he defeated Nicola Kuhn in three sets after Fabio Fognini withdrew himself from the tournament following his injury during the practice.
