World rank no. 2 and the top-seeded at Barcelona Open, Rafael Nadal managed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament after a tough win over German player Jan-Lennard Struff on Friday.
The Spaniard is staying true on his quest for winning his 12th title at the Barcelona Open as he defeated the world no. 51 Struff by 7-5 and 7-5.
32 years old Nadal, will now face the winner of the Indian Wells Dominic Thiem who earlier on the day defeated Guido Pella by 7-5 and 6-2 to set up his 12th career faceoff against Nadal, “The King of Clay”.
Ten of the 11 meetings between Nadal and Thiem have been off the clay with only 1 being at clay at the Barcelona Open of 2017 final. That match was won by Nadal as he defeated the Austrian by 6-1 and 6-4.
In other matches, the former 2 times champion of the event, Kei Nishikori will now play against Daniil Medvedev for the other semi-final.
Nishikori, the Japanese star tennis player defeated his Spanish opponent Roberto Carballes Baena by 6-4 and 7-5. As for the Russian youngster Medvedev, he defeated Nicolas Jarry by 6-3 and 6-4.
As for the Hungarian Open currently being held in Budapest, two of the highest seeded player of the event crashed out.
The 2nd seeded Bora Coric was defeated by Filip Krajinovic and will face Pierre Hughes Herbert who himself defeated the Hungarian wildcard player Attila Balazs by 6-3 and 6-4.
