Brisbane International; Jo-Wilfried Tsonga back to his old form after reaching Brisbane semi-finals

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the former finalist of the Australian Open defeat Alex De Mianur in the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International and now he meets Daniil Medvedev, Kei Nishikori and Jeremy Chardy in the semifinals.

     

33 years old Tsonga was able to defeat the seventh seed of the tournament by 6-4 and 7-6 in a high-quality match to set up his meeting with Daniil Medvedev, who earlier defeated Andy Murray. Their match will take place on Saturday.

Tsonga, the former world no. 4 missed seven months of the 2018’s season due to his knee surgery, showed his excellent form in the tournament.

If he continues to perform at his finest, he is going to be the dark horse for the first Grand Slam of 2019 at Melbourne which starts on January 14th.

Tsonga said, “I expected something like this before the match. I had seen him play a couple of times and I was aware that it is going to be tough. We have a completely different game from each other. It was a good tennis match and I am really happy the way I played tonight.”

The second seed Kei Nishikori and Jeremy Chardy both advanced to the Saturday’s semifinals after defeating their opponents Grigor Dimitrov and Yasutaka Uchiyama respectively.
