Kei Nishikori managed to defeat his Brisbane International semi final’s opponent Jeremy Chardy to set up the final match against Daniil Medvedev on Saturday.
29 years old Japanese tennis star was in his best condition as he displayed his commanding performance on the court against his French opponent as he managed to advance to the finals for the second time in past three years. Nishikori won the match by 6-2 and 6-2.
Nishikori has his eyes set up on making it to World ranking Top 5 after he fell to world rank no. 35 in April last year due to his wrist injury he suffered at the end of 2017. That injury then forced him to take a break from the tour.
Nishikori, who is currently world rank no. 9, said of his win, “everything was working very well today. I felt like I was a little too fast on the court today. It really felt very good. Both physically and tennis-wise, I think I was perfect. I not only served well but also returned well. I think this was the key today for my win and it was fantastic.”
Now Nishikori is going to face of the fourth seed Russian player Medvedev in the Sunday’s final.
Medvedev managed to make it into the final match after defeating Wilfried Tsonga by 7-6 and 6-2.
On the other hand, Japan’s Naomi Osaka lost her match against Lesia Tsurenko by 6-2 and 6-4, a brutal thrashing.
Tsurenkois now set to face the 2017’s champion and the former world rank no. 1 Carolina Pliskova for the final who defeat Donna Vekic by 6-3 6-4.
