Union Berlin was able to come from trailing twice on Thursday against Stuttgart to end the match in a 2-2 draw which is a great promotion for them in the Bundesliga’s first leg of the playoff.
Suleiman Abdullahi was the one who caused the first draw after he only needed 87 seconds to equalize the Union Berlin after scoring a goal in the 42n minute of the game.
From Stuttgart’s side, Marvin Friedrich gave a header to Mario Gomez to score a header goal in his net during the 51st minute of the game. However, the Union’s defender was able to atone tone for his mistake as he again equalized the match in the 68th minute.
With this, Union is now in a good position ahead of the second leg of the playoff that will be held in Berlin on coming Monday. Union Berlin which is a team based in Koepenick was able to finish at third place in the division and has yet to lose a game at home this season.
As for Stuttgart, they finished at the bottom in Bundesliga and have only won 13 of their last 17 games in this season.
Nico Willig, Stuttgart coach said, “We were imagining it to go really different for us. Still, it is the only halftime and we simply need to win on Monday.”
Union Berlin, with completing their best season to date, are now also bidding to become the best club to have ever played in East Germany’s Oberliga for their effort to play in Bundesliga.
