Celtics rare playoff first round sweep of Pacers after Game 4 win by 110-106

Gordon Hayward and Marcus Morris did some of the housecleaning on Sunday night.

With their 3-pointer shooting, they helped the Boston Celtics to have a clean sweep.

Hayward helped the team with his 20 points while Marcus Morris added in his 18 points as the duo made 5 combine 3s in the final 5 minutes of the game to let them win over the Indian Pacers by 110-106. This was the Boston Celtics first series win in the last 8 years.

Kyrie Irving, the All-Star guard of the Celtics said, “I knew that there was going to be some spark on the court and tonight it was Gordon Hayward. This is his city and I am glad that he got to put out performance in this closeout game.”

Since the season of 1986-87, Celtics have only managed to make a series sweep once in the first round and that was against New York Knicks. As for the title-clinching sweep, Celtics managed that over the Minneapolis Lakers back in the 1958-59 season and their perfect run was against Milwaukee Bucks back in the 195-86 season’s Eastern Conference finals.

The last year’s Eastern Conference runner ups now will now be hooking up against the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks.

Hayward said “it is now going to take everything we have. That is why; it is good that we finished the series with a sweep.  Now we can rest up a bit, prepare and then still have some extra time.”

As for the 3rd seeded Pacers, they clearly did not play better than the Celtics. Pacers were led by Bojan Bogdanovic who scored 22 points while Tyreke Evans scored his own career high for playoffs at 21 points.

This is the second time in the last 3 years that Pacers have been swept away. This has only happened twice in their franchise history.

Next, Boston Celtics are going to wait for their second-round series of the playoffs.
