Champions League First leg; Ronaldo held scoreless as Atletico beats Juventus by 2-0

In the Wednesday night game of football between Juventus and Atletico, the Atletico payers kept the Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo in check as they defeat the Juventus by 2-0 in the first leg of the Champion League’s round of 16.

Central defenders of Atletico; Jose Maria Gimenez and Diego Godin both scored a goal late into the game to give their team a win.

As for Ronaldo, he was jeered at by the crowd nearly every time he touched the ball. This was Ronaldo’s first time in the Spanish capital after he left Real Madrid back last year’s summer. He came close to score a goal with less than 10 minutes into the game but after that, he only had fewer chances.

Ronaldo could do less against his old rivals whom he had previously helped reach the four straight season of the Champion League while he played for Real Madrid.

As for Atletico, they suffered a reversal of their first-half penalty by VAR after it was confirmed that Diego Costa had fouled outside the area. Three referees occulted on video replays as well as on the side before disallowing the second goal by Alvaro Mortara.

Ronaldo’s name was loudly booed when his name was announced before the match.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said “Ronaldo played a good match as he is used to this type of match. The entire team had a letdown in the second half. This is the lesson we have t learn from in the next match.”

This year’s Champion League final match will be played at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
