Coco Gauff is not playing like her age at all. She is still 15 years old and is already at world rank no. 67 and it is rising as it would seem.
Everyone seems to find out that no matter who Coco Gauff faces with whatever high experience or accolade they have or no matter the stakes, she is playing with her utmost dedication and is delivering a good sport.
Gauff recently became the youngest player of Australian Open and of the modern tennis era, to have eliminated the reigning world champion of women’s singles. She defeated the former world no. 1 and the defending champ Naomi Osaka in their 3rd round match of Australian Open by 6-3 and 6-4 at the Melbourne Park.
Following the conclusion of the match and doing her on-court interview, she turned into a normal teenager with making a joke that she wants to take a selfie for her Instagram account with Rod Laver; the 11-time champion of the major tournament after whom the stadium is named.
Gauff said, “Honestly, like, what is my life? Like, Oh my gosh. 2 years ago, I had lost in the 1st round of the juniors and now I am here. This is really crazy.”
Gauff has also become the youngest player to have defeated a Top 5 player in the Women’s tour-level tournament. She is the first to have done so since 1991 when Jennifer Capriati did it at the age of 15 years old.
Osaka said, “You do not want to be beaten by 15 years old, you know?”
In other Australian Open matches of the day, 23 times major champion Serena Williams was defeated by the 27th seeded player Wang Qiang by 6-4, 6-7, and 7-5.
In the match of Osaka VS Gauff, Osaka made 30 of the unforced errors while Gauff only had 17. This was indeed a terrific rematch of their 3rd round match of the US Open held back in September which was won by Osaka.
