The Cleveland Indians are now going to be playing without their former AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber for a very long time. The reason is that Kluber was hit by a devastating blow from a line drive on Wednesday night.
According to the preliminary X-rays and reports from Indians, Kluber has suffered from a non-displaced fracture on his right ulna after he was struck by a ball that was driven off the bat of the outfielder of Miami Marlins, Brian Anderson during the fifth inning. According to the speed data, the ball that hit Kluber on the arm was traveling at a speed of 102 mph.
After the ball bounced off his arm towards the first base, he could not even lift it up and gave it a push with his left-hand glove and walked off the field.
Terry Francona, the Manager of Indians said, “It looked really ugly.”
The team said that Kluber will be assessed on Thursday for further medical evaluation after which they will assist the possible time for his return.
Roberto Perez, the coach for Cleveland Indians said, “It happened so fast that I could not tell where he got hit. I only saw him holding his arm. It was really tough. Tito kept on asking him, ‘How Are You Feeling?’ but he was just numb. At that point, you start to think about the worst.”
According to Indians, the fracture is non-displaced which means the bone is still aligned properly.
