Dallas Cowboys 17-20 Washington Redskins; Bret Maher missed a crucial field goal

Brett Maher, the kicker for Dallas Cowboys missed a  crucial 52 yard field goal in the final seconds which literally handed the win to their NFC East Rivals; Washington redskins by 20-17 on Sunday night football.

Cowboys managed to gain the ball from Redskins with one minute and 9 seconds left on the clock for the fourth quarter. Prescott tried to set up the team for scoring a 47 yard field goal in an effort to tie the game.

 

However, a false penalty caused the Cowboys to be pushed back further five yards back. To make matters worse, Maher’s kick ended up cannoned to the left upright instead of sneaking inside to have the team get overtime.

 

Adrian Peterson, the veteran paler of Redskins managed 99 rushing yards on his 24 attempts. As for Ezekiel Elliot of the Cowboys, he only managed to complete 33 yards for his 15 carries.

 

Redskins are no in the lead in the NFC East by 4-2 for the first time since their five matchups. They were able to maintain this lead by winning back to back games for the first time in the season.

FIRST QUARTER

Cowboys 0-7 Redskins: Alex Smith made a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kapri Bibbs.

SECOND QUARTER

Cowboys 7-7 Redskins: Dak Prescott made a 49-yard touchdown pass to Michael Gallup.

THIRD QUARTER

Cowboys 7-10 Redskins: Hopkins made a 21-yard field goal.

FOURTH QUARTER

Cowboys 7-13 Redskins: Hopkins made a 25-yard field goal.

Cowboys 10-13 Redskins: Maher made a 47-yard field goal.

Cowboys 10-20 Redskins: Preston Smith made a one-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Cowboys 17-20 Redskins: Prescott made a one-yard touchdown run.
