Dave Weir; announced to media that he is aiming to be the part of the British Team for competing in the 2020 Paralympic Games of Tokyo.
Weir is the six time Paralympic Champion who has won four gold medals at London 2012. He once vowed that he is never going to race for Britain after his struggling time at Rio 2016.
He won the two London Marathons to make a total of eight titles. In the more recent news, he won the Sunday’s Great North Run Wheelchair race held in Manchester.
Regarding his decision of changing his mind to getting back into International competition, he said to media, “representing athletics and especially British Team has always been one of my greatest passions. I am glad to inform that I am going to participate for being the part of British team for the 2020 Paralympic games in Tokyo at this qualifying marathon.”
“People are aware that the Paralympic games did not go as I had planned them, but now I have discovered a new passion and desire for racing this year. I am going faster than ever and I am excited to imagine what future holds for me ahead.”
Paula Dunn; the head coach for the Para Athletics at British Athletics told media, “I am pleased with Dave’s decision for targeting the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo”.
“We are 100% on board with Dave in his effort to make it his sixth game. He is a legend in this show and his achievements speak for themselves. He is going to be a motivation for the rest of team that is moving out for Tokyo”.
