Daytona 500 aka the Great American Race came to a 25 minutes halt after a horrific 21-car crash. In the end, Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 for the second time in four years.
The crash occurred after Paul Menard, who was driving car number 21, clipped to car number 95 driven by racer Matt Di Benedetto with ten laps remaining to the race.
Both of these drivers were in the top five places of the race.
Menard has accepted the responsibility of this crash after the race as he said, “I will take the blame for this one. That was my bad. I wrecked a lot of cars and I feel bad about that. It was go time and I was pushing the number 95. To me, it seemed like he was going to the middle and I started to try to get to the outside and just barely hooked him.”
The crash resulted in the pile-up of more than a dozen cars but fortunately, no injuries have been reported for the drivers in the crash.
In the final 20 laps of the race, five crashes and two red flags happened.
