Emily Appleton might have not been included in the singles title of this year but she still has a lot of other opportunities like her winning the fist ITF event of the year.
The 19 years old Emily Appleton went over to the city of Martinique in France where she was able to perform her various tricks and strategies which she picked up after her months of training and time in the gym.
Emily on her week of the busy schedule at the Caribbean said, “It has been a very good and promising start of the year 2019 as I played in my first tournament of the year. I was seeded as no. 5 and was looking to make a strong impression of myself and that I did in both singles and doubles. I have made some new additions to my coaching team. We have been working for a few months to raise my level both on the court and in the gym.”
She further added to her statement, “I was feeling ready to compete when I set for Martinique. I was eager to try some new things I had been training for during my training sessions. For the first round match, I faced a local player of Caribbean island and got the win pretty comfortably.”
Talking about her second round match she said, “Next up was a French girl. She was a tough opponent; I still got a win over her in two straight sets. With that being, I got into quarter finals and was up against the no. 2 seed of the tournament a player from Greece Eleni Kordolaimi. Against her, I played high-quality tennis and won by 6-0 and 6-4. For the semi-finals, I was up against another Greek player Alice Tubello who was the fourth seed of the tournament and I narrowly lost a win against her by 4-6, 6-2 and 6-7.”
As for her doubles match she told media, “ for the doubles, I teamed up with an American player named Dalayna Hewitt and winning three solid games we went up to the semi-finals. In the finals we faced a strong duo and again narrowly missed the chance of winning the title by 4-6, 6-3 and 4-10.”
Lastly taking about her experience in Martinique she said, “That was a really positive start of the year and I am already excited for the next few weeks and months. I am still looking to make improvements to my game.”
