During a bout between Paul Hyland Jr. and Francesco Patera held in Milan, Hyland Jr. was not so lucky as he got beaten by Patera within six rounds.
The Belfast lightweight champion fought with a lot of courage at the Allianz Cloud but was still a level below his Belgian opponent who knocked him down 4 times on the canvas before the referee had to intervene and mercifully wave off the fight.
With this win, Patera has won two of his EBU belt defense fights as he had won with style first against Lewis Ritson earlier last year. As for this fight, this was his one of the most splendid early finish since 2016.
The opening rounds saw Belfast man approaching Patera with ferociousness and amazing speed but Patera was able to soon match his opponent on his cards and with his sharp combinations in the play, he was able to do more damage to his opponent.
The 2nd round saw Hyland Jr. getting a cut on his forehead and being bloodied followed by him being on the canvas after taking a cross right punch. He decided to do some kamikaze moves in the next but that only got him in troubled waters against Patera.
He still held on to let his guard down and rely on his jabs and hooks during the 3rd round but that only made Hyland Jr. an easy target for pounding by Patera. The Belgian fighter was able to land in some pretty heavy punches with near accuracy.
This one-way beating then continued from there on and despite the courageous efforts of Hyland Jr., he was down again in the fifth after taking a heavy body shot.
Two more visits to canvas came right after in the 6th round that prompted the referee to wave off the fight.
