In a significant development, a familiar face from the Indian Premier League (IPL) has secured a pivotal role in international cricket. The former Mumbai Indians (MI) player, whose prowess on the field earned him recognition, has been appointed as the assistant coach for the England men’s team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
England ropes in Kieron Pollard for the coaching role
Having showcased his skills as a player, the MI stalwart and former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard will now bring his wealth of experience and cricketing insights to the coaching setup of the England team. This appointment underscores the growing trend of IPL alumni transitioning into coaching roles at the international level.
Pollard, who bid farewell to international cricket in April last year and also announced his IPL retirement, has been part of the MI support staff as batting coach.
“Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed to the England Men’s coaching team for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States. Pollard will join the England Men’s team specifically for the T20 World Cup as an assistant coach and to provide expertise of local conditions,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated in their press release.

The T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the Caribbean Islands and the USA from June 4 to 30, is a platform where Pollardwill play a crucial role in shaping the strategy and performance of the England squad. His experience in the high-pressure environment of T20 cricket, gained through years of playing in the IPL, is expected to be a valuable asset for the English team.
The reigning champions England, who secured victory in the 2022 edition by defeating Pakistan in Australia, also clinched their first-ever T20 World Cup title during the third season, hosted by the West Indies in 2010.
