For the doubles team of the Europe, Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev teamed up and they gave Europe a commanding lead of 3-1 against the world team on Friday for the first day of the Laver Cup.
Federer, who has won the Olympic Gold medal for doubles, along with Zverev was able to defeat the world team of Denis Shapovalov and Jack Sock by 6-3 and 7-5. As for the afternoon singles matches, they were held at the noisy venue of Palexpo arena that has the seat capacity of 17000.
Federer thanked his partner by saying, “Thanks Sascha, for taking me into the 2nd set.”
As for Sock, he leveled the event by winning against the world rank no. 11 Fabio Fognini by 6-1 and 7-6.
Then from Europe side the lead was regained again by the world rank no. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas by 6-2, 1-6 and 10-7 who defeated the world rank no. 30 Taylor Fritz.
Federer is now going to be back on the court for a show in front of the crowd on Saturday when he will play against Nick Kyrgios. Federer, whoa actually co-owns the Laver cup said, “I am feeling fresh and I am ready to go for more.”
Europe is looking to secure its third straight laver Cup win as it was launched two years ago at Prague and then was moved to Chicago last year.
