For San Francisco Giants, ever season-opening game has been a close call. Despite having a rough start against San Diego Padres where they got beaten 3 of 4, they managed to win over the Los Angeles Dodgers by 4-2 on Monday night.
4 of the first 5 games for Giants were decided by 2 runs or lower in the last season.
Bruce Botchy, the manager of Giants said, “We had a tough weekend back in San Diego but tonight we were able to get some good pitch, timely hitting along with great defense. We are still going to have a lot of close game and we will play with the aim to win.”
Giants were led when Brandon Belt struck a go-ahead with a 2-run double off of Scott Alexander pitching during the seventh inning. San Francisco with Belt’s lead was trailing by 2-1.
He said, “home runs are not my priority. Still, whenever you get a good pitch for hitting, then it feels great to do so.”
As Dodgers were trailing by 4-2 in the the9th inning, their pinch hitter Max Muncy walked away. However, other pitchers of Dodgers; Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger both held on until the game ended.
This was the first time since 2003 that Dodgers have made home runs in all 5 games.
Up next, Madison Bumgarner will be taking the mound for the San Francisco Giants against the Dodgers Madison Bumgarner in the middle game of the series.
