Heather Watson has managed to book herself a place for the Hobart International main raw after defeating her opponent Isabella Wallace.
The British number 2 managed to advance into the qualifying round after defeating her 22 years old Australian opponent Wallace by 6-4 and 6-4.
The match which appeared to be a back and forth one where both players dropping their opening serves, Watson steeled her nerves in the third game to secure the opening set in 45 minutes.
As for Watson who won the event in 2015 and reached the semifinals in 2018, failed to take advantage of the two match points at 5-4.
Quoted on the tournament’s website, Watson said, whenever I come to Hobart, I feel really positive and excited about this tournament. When I am happy I play better. I am very happy here and this shows my progress clearly.”
As for the Sydney International second round clash between Johanna Konta and Ekaterina Alexandrova, Konta was forced to retire due to a neck injury.
