Roger Federer has become the most successful player in the history of Hopman Cup after he led Switzerland’s win over Germany by 2-1 in Perth on Saturday.
Federer, who teamed up with Belinda Bencic for the second consecutive time, was able to win the title twice for the event which is the final edition of the tournament.
The duo beat the German pairing of Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber for the second year in a row in the mixed doubles rubber match.
Federer was the dominant force in this doubles match as he claimed the win for Switzerland by 4-0, 1-4, and 4-3 to clinch the title.
Federer trailing about his win said, “I am happy that I was able to maintain good high-quality tennis for the whole week. It feels good to finish off the singles like this. I was able to serve out well and also made some good volleys and in the end, it all worked out great.”
This was Switzerland’s fourth title win and they are only behind the USA who has won six titles. As for Federer, he won his first Hopman Cup back in 2001 in which he was teamed up with Martina Hingis.
