India Women’s team made history at Wankhede by winning their first-ever Test match against Australia by eight wickets. The Women in Blue had never won a game against Australia in the whites but they finally broke the deadlock and registered a thumping win against the mighty Aussies.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first on a good Wankhede track. However, their decision backfired as India bundled them for just 219 in the first innings.

India in reply scored 406 in the first innings with the help of half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma. The Australian Team was again all out for 261, giving an easy target of 75 to the Indian Team. They chased the target easily with eight wickets to spare. Australia was completely crushed by India in the one-off Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur thanked the BCCI for allowing them to play Test cricket and also hailed the selectors for giving the best side for the one-off Tests against England and Australia. She is hopeful of playing more Test matches after securing victories against England and Australia in consecutive games.

“Firstly I want to thank BCCI for giving us this opportunity and secondly all our selectors who have given us the best side and have shown trust in every member of the team. I think when everything works together you are always getting positive results and hopefully after these two wins (against England and Australia) we will get many more Test games in upcoming years. Especially thanks to the crowd, they have been there for all four days and I think everything went really well for us,” said Harmanpreet Kaur.

India Women Will Now Face Australia Women In The White-Ball Leg

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Women In Blue in the white-ball leg of the tour as they gear up to face Australia in three ODIs and three T20Is. They previously faced England in three T20Is, losing the series 2-1, and won the one-off Test against them by a huge 347-run margin. India Women are now set to face Australia in three ODIs and three T20Is. The Women in Blue will look to win the white-ball leg to ensure complete domination on the tour.

Australia women were successful in winning the last time they toured India in 2022-23. This time Alyssa Healy will be leading the Australian side and will look to repeat the results of last year. However, looking at the form of the Indian team, it is likely that India will not be an easy opposition for the Women’s World Champions.

The Team has not been announced for the ODI and T20I series against Australia, but Harmanpreet Kaur will likely be leading the side in both formats and there will not be many changes in the squad. Australia Women’s team has been announced with Alyssa Healy leading the side and Tahila McGrath as her deputy in both series. The first ODI of the three will be played on December 28
