Bianca Andreescu; the teenage wildcard of the Paribas Open in the women event gave herself a fairytale-like the weekend after she defeated Angelique Kerber, the 3 time Grand Slam champion, to win the tournament.
Although 18 years old Bianca Andreescu had dreamt of being the Indian Wells champion so many times that it would not have come as a surprise to her by winning it. Stills he was pretty shocked at her Sunday victory over the German star.
Bianca Andreescu, who before games relies on the visualization techniques as well as the mediation heavily, had to fight a tough battle against Kerber to claim this thrilling victory.
She had visualized the win before going into this match and despite having a shoulder injury and a cramp, she in a moment with her coach which has gone viral told him that she needs this first WTA title of her career really badly.
The champion in the press conference told media, “I did visualize the victory. I did not do it on this morning but also many times other days. It is so crazy to think that all of this became a reality today. After it had the talk with my coach, I laid it all out on the court. At that certain point, I was really tired and I went for my shots aggressively and that worked out for me. In the next few games, I again did the same thing and only fought till the end.”
Not being totally fit is nothing new for Bianca Andreescu who had been previously missed 6 months of 2016 and had also been sidelined during last year’s tour due to her back problems.
She added to her statement, “1 year ago at this very time, I had been struggling a lot with my tennis game as well as my body. So it is crazy what a difference 1 year can make.”
