In the title defense fight between the champion Jessica McCaskill VS Erica Fariascalls, Jessica McCaskill was able to defend her both world title and then asked for a rematch against Katie Taylor.
In the Saturday night fight for the WBA and WBC Super-lightweight titles, McCaskill was able to retain these titles with a majority points decision.
As for Taylor, she is currently the undisputed champion of the lightweight division and is now moving up a division where she will fight for the WBO belt against Christian Linardatou next month. Jessica McCaskill has previously been beaten by Taylor.
Jessica McCaskill said in her post-fight interview, “we are looking for the McCaskill VS Taylor II. We want the IBF and WBO belts. We are also looking for names like Amanda Serrano. We have already talked to their team and they would also love a match like this. Cecilia Braekhus? We are looking to make history.”
McCaskill was really frustrated by her opponent’s negativity and that resulted in both fighters getting points deducted resulting in an ugly contest.
Jessica McCaskill said post-fight, “In the first fight, there had been brawling, boxing, banging, and some good shots. I thought that is what I would get tonight. She then gassed, complained and then held on to me.”
In the undercard fight of the Usyk VS Witherspoon, there was a fight between Charles Conwell VS Patrick Day. Day suffered a knockout defeat in the 10th round by his opponent and fell unconscious.
Following this fight, Patrick Day has fallen into a coma and has been reported to be in extremely critical condition. Reports also suggest that he has a serious traumatic injury to his brain.
The heavy punch by Conwell came in the early moments of the 10th round that caused Day to stumble backward and following that came a devastating hook that floored Day.
The doctor came to treat him in the ring as he lost consciousness and soon the paramedics came rushing in to transport him to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital. There Day suffered from a seizure and is now being held in ICU after having emergency surgery.
