Josh Morrissey; the defenseman for the Winnipeg Jets has only received a fine for 8468 dollars instead of a suspension for his unsportsmanlike behavior against the Washington Capitals forward player T.J. Oshie.
The punishment was handed down by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Thursday after Morrissey’s disciplinary hearing.
This amount of fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
Morrissey threw Oshie on the ice late in the Jets win over Capitals on Wednesday night by 3-1.
This kind of unsportsmanlike play was previously performed by Florida’s Mike Matheson who threw the Vancouver’s Elias Peterson to ice back in October. However, Mike did not receive this kind of punishment instead he received a two-game suspension.
