Joseph Parker is right on track for his heavyweight resurgence as he gave a beatdown to Alex Leapai in the heavyweight fight in Rhode Island which he won by stoppage.
The New Zealander was able to dominate most of the fight but was not able to finish the fight with a decisive shot. The 39 years old Leapai was able to display his toughness and experience in the ring before the referee was forced to remove him.
Parker has signed with Matchroom USA with promoter Eddie Hearn and also revealed his future plans after winning this fight.
He said, “When I started landing punches on him I knew he was a tough one as he was not going down. I needed to be patient with him. I won him over and now I want any fight that comes my way. I want to keep myself busy and I also want to avenge all those losses on my record. After that, I want to fight against Andy Ruiz Jr. once more.”
Parker, with the opening bell, started pouncing at his opponent as he made short work of his opponent with his hooks and Leapai could only be sagged in a corner taking the beating with occasional replies.
A minute’s rest did nothing to change the fight’s flow as the 27 years old once again hit Leapai with his uppercuts and one-two combinations that granted Parker an early finish even on cards.
Leapai could only do little in this fight but take the overwhelming beating from Parker before the referee was forced to intervene in the 10th to wave off the fight.
