Justin Gimelstob resigns as a member of the ATP board following his assault sentencing

Justin Gimelstob has announced the news about this resignation from the ATP board of directors after 1 week of his case of misdemeanor assault of attacking a friend in which he pled not guilty.

Justin Gimelstob the former tennis player who has also served time as the coach and a broadcaster, on Wednesday posted his statement on Facebook as follows,

“it is clear that I have now become a significant burden and distraction” to tennis and therefore does not “deserve to be in this position of influence.”

If he had not resigned, Gimelstob might have been up for re-election for the board to which he has served for as a member for 11 years.

On April 22nd, the 42 years old Gimelstob was sentenced by the court for 3 years probation along with 60 days of community service and 1 year of anger management classes.

Gimelstob, according to his prosecutors attacked his friend Randall Kaplan when they were trick or treating with their kids in Los Angeles back in 2017.

According to the statement, Gimelstob struck his friend multiple times and even threatened to kill him. The scene was witnessed by Kaplan’s wife who said that she was terrified to see the nature of the assault at her husband.
