Katie Taylor who is the holder of the WBA and IBF lightweight titles is bidding to take on the third world title for the WBO belt currently held by Rose Volante in Philadelphia on the Saint Patrick’s weekend.
Taylor, the Irish star is only one belt away from being the division’s undisputed champion if she manages to win this WBO belt on Friday’s match that will be held on March 15th.
She is bidding for this third title on the bill which will also feature the famed fight of the IBF super featherweight title defense of Tevin Farmer against the Dublin native Jono Caroll.
Volante became the unbeaten Brazilian WBO champion after she managed to gain the win on points back in 2017. She is now also ready to brace it out against Katie Taylor.
Taylor, who is expected to next make a fight for the WBC champion Delfine Persoon said to media, “ever since I won the first title match, my goal had been to unify the lightweight titles. So yeah, this is my next big step towards achieving my goals.”
She further added to her statement, “Volante is an unbeaten fighter so I am expecting a tough fight against her but this is exactly the kind of challenge I am looking for right now. In my opinion, the better the opponent and bigger the challenge, better I will perform. It is great to be on the card especially with s9o many fighters on the bill on St. Patrick’s weekend in Philadelphia. I am pretty sure it is going to be a very special occasion.”
