Keanon Lowe the ex-college football star of the University of Oregon was credited by the local government as a hero for stopping an armed gunman who was a student, at a high school located in Portland, Oregon. Keanon Lowe stopped the assailant even before he could hurt anyone.
Keanon Lowe is currently working as a football and track coach as well as a security guard for the Parkrose High School. He talked with the media after he was leaving a police interview on Friday. He said that he is tired but is still relieved at what he did.
Currently, there are no other suspects and the police have not disclosed the name and identity of the student. They are still trying to determine if any shots were fired. As for Keanon Lowe’s involvement in stopping the gunman, Police sergeant Brad Yakots have admitted to it.
Keanon Lowe said to media, “I am just happy that everyone is safe. I am happy that I was there to play my part in saving the kids and be a helpful part of the community.”
Michael Lopes Serrao, the Superintendent of the Parkrose School District reported in a letter to the families that prior to the incident that happened on Friday evening, two of the students at the school reported to the staff about the Concerning Behavior of the student involved in the case.
Lopes Serrao wrote in his letter that, “Security staff then responded by founding the student and disarmed him quickly. Due to the heroic efforts of the security staff, all the students and staff are safe.”
A senior named Justyn Wilcox at the school told media that 10 minutes prior to the time class ended, that particular student appeared in the hallway. He had a huge trench coat on and he suddenly pulled out a long gun from under his coat.
Alexa Pope, another senior said that the student did not point the gun at anyone in particular. The student tried to flee from the backdoor as the front was blocked by the student.
With the whole incident being controlled by the bravery and dutifulness of one man, the school is safe.
Lopes Serrao wrote that the student involved in the incident with the gun would not be returning back to the school. He also wrote that the school will resume from Monday as usual but with an enhanced security presence.
