On the early hours of the Sunday morning, the blockbuster of a boxing fight held at Madison Square Garden in New York City between Amir Khan and Terrence Crawford ended with a terrible stoppage loss for Khan.
The WBO champion Crawford left Khan doubled with a low body blow and Briton was also hampered by his arm injury. At this point, the trainer Virgil Hunter called off this one-sided fight.
After having consulted with Khan’s trainer, the referee David Fields then called off the fight in a TKO victory for Terrence Crawford with 47 seconds into the 6th round.
Khan after his defeat said, “Today I realized why Terrence is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. I am a good boxer, but he showed even more great skills and movements today. I was caught by a low shot below the belt which I could clearly feel. I was in a lot of pain and I could feel it in my stomach and at that point my legs kind of seized.”
He further said, “I could not continue anymore, I could not continue. I am not one to give up the fight a fight till the end. You need to knock me out to have me give up the fight you know. I was hit hard below the belt today.”
The opening round saw Khan dropping on the canvas after an overhand right punch after making his left jab shot. He got up to his feet but then again was floored before the bell sounded.
Khan started the 2nd round with a nice right-hand punch and then again opened the 3rd with a sharp right but the American opponent switched his stances as he made a new strategy.
Khan was troubled again in the 4th as Crawford whipped him good.
Y the 5th round, Crawford was working overtime on Khan’s body and head and finished the round with a decent right punch to the temple.
Khan started to show signs of struggle in the 6th round with his injured arm and took heavy punishment in the 6th round before the fight was called off.
