Lee Selby wins by decision against Ricky Burns

The lightweight boxing fight held on Saturday night between the 2 former world Champions; Lee Selby and Ricky Burns at The O2 ended with a majority decision win for Selby.

Lee Selby of Wales was much lighter on feet as compare dot his opponent winch prompted the 2 ringside judges to deny Burns a win in this lightweight fight.

Form the opening rounds, Lee Selby was able to establish his poise as a quick fighter while Burns only tired to halt his movements and to rough him up.

Burns was able to negate Lee Selby’s speed with his experience until during the 5th round; Selby landed 2 fast left hooks.

Burns got frustrated and then landed the punch evened after the bell was sounded for the end of 5th and the referee was already breaking the two fighters apart.  Men from the corner of Lee Selby came into the ring in order to separate their fighter away and also to keep him composed.

In the 76th round, Selby came composed as Barns was chasing after his shadow until he managed to land a left hook to Selby in the 7th.

Burns, the previous 3-weight champion of the world complained after the 8th round that Selby hit him even after the bell was sounded. The 9th saw the former sparring partners then fighting at close quarters.

Since last year when Selby lost his featherweights title to Josh Warrington, he had come up with the two-weight division. In the final round, Lee Selby upped his speed as he threw many more punches.

Burns was able to land a heavy right-hand punch with only 20 seconds to the clock but only to suffer the 8th defeat of his boxing career.

One of the judges scored the fight at 115-115 draw while 2 others scored in favor of Lee Selby with points 116-112 and 116-113.

Selby said, “I had to dig in deep but we are both warriors of Celtics and love to tear-up. I want to be the first boxer from Wales to be able to win the 2 world titles.”
