Leipzig shrugs off protests to win over Gladbach by 3-1 in Bundesliga game

In the midst of the violent protests, Leipzig was able to still hold its ground to defeat the Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Friday night match of Bundesliga to win by 4-1 and keep the perfect start of the season in place.

Timo Werner led the team with his hat trick of goals as they claimed their 3rd win of the league under the new coach named Julian Nagelsmann.

Fans of Silent Union Berlin maintained a 15-minute long “atmosphere boycott” for the game which was Leipzig’s first game away from home in the season.

On Friday night, players of Leipzig were heavily whistled at any moment when they had the ball in the first 19 minutes as they tried to correspond to the founding year of Gladbach back in 1900.

Behind one of the goals, a banner was held high that read, “No acceptance for RB!” which was referenced to the backer of Leipzig, the Red Bull. Leipzig has been a very unpopular team since its founding back in 1009.

The club was founded by Red Bull, the manufacturer of the energy drinks and also financed the club to steady progress from all the way to Bundesliga from lower leagues.
