Liam Smith gains 7th round TKO win over Mario Alberto Lozano in Mexico

In the fight between Liam Smith and Mario Alberto Lozano, it was Smith who was able to secure himself a 7th round TKO victory to keep his hopes alive for a world title fight. The fight between the two fighters was held in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The experienced Mexican fighter, Lozano was handed his 42-fight career’s 2nd ever stoppage defeat after the referee was forced to wave the fight off in Smith’s victory.

Smith, the former champion for the WBO Super Welterweight division, who was only defeated two times in his career by Lozano’s countrymen; Saul Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Mugnai, started to pile up pressure on Lozano in the 3rd round.

Lozano was pushed to the ropes near the end of the 3rd round but then he let go of his hands in the next round and was caught with a right punch in the 4th.

Smith replied back with his own heavy right in the 5th followed by an uppercut and then working his opponent’s body while Lozano was only able to have a little success with counters.

Lozano was able to land a devastating body shot to Smith in the 6th round but Smith then retaliated with his own damaging left hook shot on the lower body to force Lozano on the ropes but he was fortunate enough to hear the bell ring.

Lozano came out with a little hope in the 7th but a body shot followed by a heavy left hook shot caused the referee to intervene and save the Mexican fighter from receiving any more of the punishment.
