On the Friday night boxing match between Linares VS Cano, Jorge Linares suffered shocking but thriller first-round defeat against the hard-hitting Pablo Cesar Cano.
In the fantastic opening round, “El Nino” was down three times. The referee called in only 12 seconds before the round to call off the match as the fans saw the favorite in serious trouble.
The Madison Square Garden crowd was stunned to watch the three-weight world champion’s 50 professional fight record end in a disaster which has also shattered his chance to fight for a world title a the Super Lightweight.
The first knockout shot came with 15 seconds into the opener for the knockout specialist Cano’s clubbing right. Although Linear was back up on his feet quickly, things only got worse from there.
The second one was also from the right with 1 min 24 seconds into the first round. Linares tried to fight fire with fire strategy but that’s when Cano switched to his vicious left hook to put Linares once again down on the floor with less than a minute after the second one.
The Mexican boxer sent Linares tumbling on to the ropes with a straight right and that is when referee Ricky Gonzalez stepped in and called off the fight.
WBO super-lightweight champion Maurice Hooker was ringside and after the match, he said to media, “he surprised me with a big right hand. He has got the power and he can punch. So he surprised me in the first round.”
