Liverpool advances in the Champions League by beating Salzburg by 2-0

Liverpool, the defending champions of the Champions league were able to survive an early scare from Salzburg before they went on to win over their opposing team by 2-0 and then advance to the knockout stage of the league.

Mabya Keita, the former player of Salzburg led Liverpool with his opening goal during the 1st half’s 57th minute before the Mohamed Salah managed to score another goal for the team.

The leaders of the Premier League were only in need of draw in this game for them to advance in the Champions League but with this loss, they are now eliminated from the league.

In another match of Napoli VS Genk, Napoli won by 4-0 to finish at 2nd place in the Group E and then join Liverpool in the last 16 teams.

Liverpool was playing on the edge in the 1st half as they gave away many chances to score the goals. However, the Salzburg and especially their 19 years old player Erling Braut Håland, who was looking to score his 6th goal in a row in the group game of Champions League, wasted his chances as well.

Andrew Robertson, the left-back of Liverpool said, “We kept saying, the next one, the next one, the next one and then he goes on to score one from a really ridiculous angle. I do not know that where got that goal from his weaker foot.”

Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool said of Salzburg, “What a team and what n effort from them. It was a really tough game.  They started really direct and did many smart things. Still, during the 2nd half, they could not keep up with the intensity.  We were able to score two goals wonderfully.  We have had easily scored 6 to 7 goals which would have had been a crazy feat.”

Liverpool is the 6 times champion of Europe and they have reached their last 2 Champions League tournament finals. They lost the first one to Real Madrid back in 2018 and then won the June’s final against Tottenham.
