The Liverpool of Juergen Klopp managed to cruise into the quarterfinals of the Champions League as Sadio Mane scored twice for the team to get a win over the Bayern Munich by 3-1 on Wednesday.
The first goal from Mane was scored in the 26th minute of the game while adding the third goal for the team by the 84th minute as Bayern was thinking of a way to get once more back into the game.
Serge Gnabry scored a goal from Bayern’s side in the 39th minute but Liverpool replied with their own goal in the 69th minute after Virgil Van Dijk got a cross pass from James Milner for a splendid header shot.
Klopp said, “Scoring three goals in the game of this level is very difficult. We actually scored 4 because that other goal was also scored by us. This is a big step for us. We are back once again in the International Football’s landscape.”
With the win of Liverpool, now four English soccer teams are going to be for the first time into the quarterfinals since 2013.
Niko Kovac, Bayern coach said, “we deserved this loss today. In both two games, Liverpool was the better team. Today we were forced to see our limits.”
After the final whistle of the game was blown, Klopp led the fans for celebrations.
Klopp who lost the final as Dortmund coach back in 2013 against Bayern said, “I am so proud and happy for this club. They certainly deserve awareness once more. It is not a sweet victory for me because it is against Bayern. I want to win for Liverpool and not for the defeat of Bayern. It is just such a good moment for Liverpool and we are going to enjoy it.”
Also on Wednesday, Barcelona managed to get into the quarterfinal after defeating Lyon by 5-1 at home.
